History
Building on a Legacy
St. Joe Petroleum is a family-owned business, founded in 1978 by Ron Bachman Sr. Starting with one tank wagon, he delivered fuel and lubricants to area businesses and families. To him a handshake meant a “deal was a deal.” His business philosophy was to provide customers what they needed, when and where they needed it and he was committed to seeing his customers grow and flourish.
As the company grew, Ron Sr. was joined in the business by his son Ron Jr. in 1992. Adopting his father’s work ethic, Ron Jr. took ownership of the company in 2001 and continued to build on what his father started. Since 2019, Ron Jr. has been joined in the business by his three sons (John, Jeff and Brett). Operating with the same family values since 1978, St. Joe Petroleum is eager to continue serving St. Joseph and the surrounding communities.
Company Growth
Ron Sr. started the company with one tank wagon and sold Conoco products. Since that time, St. Joe Petroleum’s operations and product offering have expanded.
St. Joe Petroleum’s wholesale offering now includes Express Premium Diesel, other fuel products, and a full line of Phillips 66 oil and greases. Propane services were added to the offering in 2013 with the acquisition of Consumer Oil & Propane. To better serve customers in the area, the company acquired Younger Oil Co. in Elmo, MO in 2021. Now with four bulk plants located across NW Missouri (St. Joseph and Elmo) and NE Kansas (Atchison and Bendena) and an expanded delivery fleet, St. Joe Petroleum can deliver orders of all sizes within 24 hours.
Fastgas, a premier convenience store chain in the St. Joseph area, represents the retail side of the company. Built on fast, clean, friendly service, the Fastgas chain continues to grow and currently has nine locations. Customers shop at Fastgas for their fuel, drinks, or one of many food options. Fresh Fare, a proprietary brand served at all locations, makes wraps, sandwiches, sweet treats and healthy snack and meal options and is available for wholesale orders. Northern Lights Pizza and Sandella’s Flatbread Café (I-29 & Frederick) and Godfather’s Pizza (Stewartsville) offer delicious dining options as well.
Community Support
At St. Joe Petroleum, we know that our success is tied to the success of our customers and the communities that we serve. We never look at customers as numbers in our system; they are fellow members of the community, just like us. We do whatever it takes to make sure they have what they need, when they need it.
And when we were the ones in need, the community provided for us too. Located on the banks of the Missouri River, our headquarters were flooded in 2019. We were able to transition our operations to a temporary location, but the mighty Missouri left a big mess. This is where our community stepped in. Members of the local business community, staff members, family and friends all pitched in to help us clean up our office. It was a truly humbling experience.
We couldn’t be more grateful for the relationships we have built and the support of our community. This makes us proud to have served St. Joseph and the surrounding communities for over 40 years. Thank you for your support!
